Other than some decent night time action with sharks and rays the days have been a slow pick. Part of the reason I think for the slow daytime bite is the ocean water temps are holding above normal. Once we get passed these dog days and get into a good stretch of southerly winds water temps will drop like a rock and fishing will improve tremendously. Looking for some relief from the heat and humidity? Standing at the waters edge is one way, and why not fish while you're there. Summertime spells delicious fluke fillets for dinner. Surf fishing for fluke is simple and relaxing. A small to medium size light weight spinning rod with a buck tail jig tipped with gulp or squid will do the trick. These fluke are in close so long casts are a waist of time and energy. Keep the jig moving and cover as much ground up and down the beach as you can, this will greatly in crease your chances... Some times more of the same isn't all that bad! Sunshine low humidity and average temperatures along with  favorable winds for the most part make up one great day for the beach. Fishing for this time of year remains typical in the surf, small to keeper size fluke, small blues and a sprinkle of king fish rounds out the targets for the day. Crabbing is ok for those who are willing to put in some time. IBSP road access to the inlet has been open since Monday morning and that's a good thing... John Yac

Today's weather may be not so great but the rest of the weekend into Monday looks just fine. Finding keeper fluke in the surf is no easy task right now, the more ground you can cover the better your odds of connecting. Lets not forget IBSP allows (2) fluke at 16" only as your bag limit. These special fluke regulations for surf fisherman in the park will cut your bag limit from (5) to (2) but the odds of bringing home those tasty filets increase. Shark fishing at night along our beaches continues with some reel rod benders every now and then. Crabbing in the bay from docks and boats is ok right now, no real blitz but a catch can be put together. Snapper blues increase in size daily keeping young and old anglers busy... No excuses! Today and tomorrow are two days you just can't miss at the beach and yes bring a rod! Small to keeper size fluke and small to medium size blues are in and out of the surf line. A relaxing day with no crowds is hard to pass up... John Yac
