Fishing Report

Not such a great forecast for Dad's day! But on the brighter side any day Dad can go fishing is a good day. Most fisherman don't mind the possibility of a rain gear trip especially when they are catching fish. Blues will be keeping them busy both out front along the beaches and back in the bay. Fluke fishing in the inlets and along the beach is increasing but the keeper to short ratio is not so great. Cut baits for the blues along with poppers and metals should be your baits of choice. Buck tails tipped with gulp or natural bait strips or just fished plain would be my number one choice, while the old kellie/squid combo has accounted for many fine catches... John Yac

This has to be the spring of the blue fish by far! Blues are keeping anglers busy just about anywhere you look. Case in point right out back on our dock last night blues to 7 plus lbs. were taking cut baits. The surf is giving up blues to 10 lbs. with the majority of fish taking cut baits. Fluke are in the inlets and along the beaches, gulp tipped buck tails and kellie squid combos are the way to go. Crabbing is ok but no blitz yet ... John Yac

Wet start to the day but with a promos of better weather later. Large blues still are taking center stage in our area right now. The largest concentration of fish seem to be in IBSP, both out front along the beaches and in the bay along the flats. Fluke fishing in the inlets and along the beach is improving daily. Cut baits, poppers and metals for the blues. The fluke on the other hand are responding to buck tails, tipped with the attractor or your choice, live kellies or a kellie and squid combo... John Yac

Picture perfect day with a morning high tide! Fluke fishing is coming into its own along our beaches. The number one plan of attack is a buck tail jig tipped with gulp but many other variations will also produce. Live kellies and squid is a tried and true favorite fished on a simple three way rig with a 18" to 24" snelled shiner hook. Bluefish are still present just waiting to jump on a piece of cut bait. Swimmers and metals are drawing attention from fish in both inlets while a buck tail bounced along the bottom is always a good bet. Crabbing off our dock is heating up... John Yac

Today not so good, tomorrow is going to be outstanding! so they say, lets hope their right. Not too much different on the fishing and crabbing fronts both in the surf and back in the bay. Blues of mixed sizes and small to keeper size fluke seem to be the top catches in these two areas. As the days pass there is less and less talk about stripers in our area but that doesn't mean they are gone by no means. Night time tides along with key locations just may pay dividends with these elusive fish... John Yac
