Fishing Report

The bay continues to keep anglers busy with a mix of all size bluefish. From the sedge islands to Tom's River blues are being taken on cut baits, poppers and metals. The ocean front is slow to recover, fishing remains a slow pic with no real fluke catches to report. Crabs out back are slow getting started but persistent crabbers are starting to catch some nice keepers. We have some custom tied killer buck tail rigs for fluke in our shop along with Captains Captain Ed's "Doodle Bug", the fluke killer! ... John Yac

Great weather but fishing, not so great. I guess we all got spoiled with the amount of fish being taken the past few weeks. But with the recent drop in water temperature the fish went off their feed. Favorable winds like today will surely bring the surf temperatures up bringing the bait within reach and hopefully the fish will be hot on their tails... John Yac

All quiet on the western front?? The fish seem to have come down with a case of lock jaw. My guess is the sudden drop in water temperature to the low 50's put them off their feed. This is a temporary situation with the amount of bait still out there a more favorable water temp will kick start things for sure. The boats are still scoring in the ocean with their ability to seek out warmer water in the deeper depths. Small to medium size blues still are roaming the bay taking cut baits and artificials... The bay continues to give up quality fish, case in point the BB and BI buoy areas have been the locations of some big fluke 4.5 lb. class plus. Blues roam the mouth of Tom's River and Cedar Creek areas. Crabbing is still very slow out back. On the ocean front. 20 lb. class plus bass are falling to clams fished in holes and cuts throughout IBSP... John Yac

Fluke off to a slow start while blues and bass keep the heat on! Between boats trolling and kayaks snagging and dropping nice size bass are consistently finding there way to the local scales. Mix in medium to large size blues and bass falling to well presented baits and lures from the sand and you have a nice spring run underway. The fluke are slow in starting but that should change shortly. The bay is still giving up some nice blues from the docks and rental boats. Yesterday two of our regular customers took a 4 hour cruse on one of our rental boats and came back with 11 blues weighing up to 11.5 lbs. Crabbing from the dock is slow getting started but with the warmer temperatures forecasted for the up coming next few days thing should pick up... John Yac
