Fishing Report

A little better today, wind wise that is, but air temps are keeping most surf guys off the beaches. Schools of bunker remain just out of casting range and the few nice bass that have been caught the past few days were mostly on clams and SP minnow swimming plugs. It's not over yet, reports of sand eels come in daily from off shore boats and birds are diving on something small. So all we need is a push of those little guys in shore and the season will go on through the holidays, lets all hope!... John Yac

Long Johns a must today before heading out. The winter chill will be with us for the next couple of days but the bass and blue fish are still biting. Boat guys still have the edge as always, finding the schools of bait then using the tried and true snag and drop method to limit out. Trolling is also producing, with large bunker spoons fished on wire accounting for some quality fish in the box. Remember black fish season is here, with a 6 fish at 15" per angler. We have green crabs, live eels, and sand worms plus our normal clams, bunker and frozen baits... John Yac

Hudson River Tournament Day. Seaside Park will be buzzing with hopeful anglers braving the morning chill in hope of a winning fish. Large schools of bait remain just out of casting range with hungry bass on their heels. The bite from the beach is still clams, cut bunker and swimming plugs in that order. Night tides are out producing daytime ones. As always plenty of fresh clams both shucked and in the shell along with fresh bunker, live eels and sand worms...John Yac

Another banner day yesterday for the boat guys, but what else is new? As frustrating as this may be for us surf jockeys, the one ray of hope from all this, is the fact that a least there is quality fish just out of our casting range. So for now we have to be content with a pick from the beach both on bait and lures and continue the waiting game, while praying for the body of fish to slide a bit west. As of tomorrow around mid day we will be carrying green crabs an will have them throughout the rest of the season... John Yac

Fishing Report

The lions share of bass are still being taken in the dark on clams, cut bunker and swimming plugs. Most of your favorite spots are producing so there is really no one or two locations you must be at. Daytime is a different matter altogether and finding the schools of bait is definitely the key. Thank God gas prices have come down a bit lately, because you will be burning some extra during the day in your pursuit of the striped bass. Weather and wind direction looks great for the next few days, so why not give it a shot. You never know when thing will really break open... John Yac
