Fishing Report

Small blue fish in the 2 to 5 lb range have found their way into the surf. Fluke are still providing dinner for the anglers willing to seek them out. As usual less fishing and bathing pressure now that the weekend is over. As far as bait goes for these two species of fish, squid spearing and killies will work well on the fluke. Cut bunker and mullet always is a good way to go for blues. Crabbing remains in high gear on the west side of the bay and snapper blues are gaining in size and range... John Yac

Real summertime report today. Fluke and small blues in the surf now and then throughout the day. Sharks and rays at night. The fluke bait of choice is gulp fished in many different ways, tipped on a buck tail jig, high low rig with a tipped buck tail for the lead and a plain gulp above, and the tried and true three way rig with a 28'' to 30'' snelled wide gap hook tipped with gulp and a sinker weight that allows the rig to move with the current and wave action. All of these will produce if fished correctly in the right locations. The small blues are taking cut bunker and mullet. Crabbing is super hot from the boats crabbing on the west side of the bay in the area known as good luck point.... John Yac

Island Beach State Park is business as usual today after yesterdays terrible mishap. Swimming should be on guarded bathing beaches only and not in arrears dedicated for fishing only. The surf temperature continues to rise daily and the fluke are back on the feed. we are hearing of some king fish starting to show now and their are rumors of a couple of bass being caught just north of us. Crabbing remains hot and snapper blues seem to be everywhere... John Yac

Surf is still a little slow, water temps are on the rise and once again small fluke are in the surf. I scouted IBSP yesterday to see first hand what if anything was going on. The water was a lot warmer and after checking out some good looking spots along the surf I managed to land (2) 16" fluke on gulp, the rig was simple, a 3-way swivel with about a 28'' snelled wide gap hook. The sinker was just heavy enough to move with the currents, and the gulp was a white 4" swimming mullet. There was some small bait present but couldn't tell what they were. Crabbing remains steady in the bay... John Yac

Another great beach day in the forecast! Fishing remains quiet along the surf due to the drop in ocean temperature caused by the abundance of southerly winds we have been experiencing. As the water temperatures rise with a wind shift so will the bite. Fluke will begin feeding again in all their ambush spots, and small blues will be searching for a easy meal. The bay on the other hand is doing a little better, their are still fluke at the BB and BI buoys although a lot more shorts then keepers and small to medium size blues are still chasing small poppers and metals. Crabbing is more than holding it's own from our rental boats while our dock is a bit slower. Snapper blues are gaining size daily and keeping the kids interested.... John Yac
