Fishing Report

Could this last passing front put a end to some really unpleasant weather? I hope so. The king fish and fluke along our beaches remain the daytime targets, while brown sharks take over their domain by night. Crabbing remains good in the bay and blow fish and snapper blues are on the rise. Yesterday just south of BI buoy John Pizzuto, aka(Johnny Docks) boated 250 blow fish in the 6"-10" range fishing clams on the bottom.

Last day of this terrible heat wave! The only break from the heat this past week has been at the ocean. Not too many fisherman though, the summer fishery remains steady. Fluke and king fish along with some croakers by day and the nights are taken up with brown sharks and that now and again keeper bass. Crabbing remains at a high level from our dock and boats and snapper fishing is improving daily from the dock....John Yac

Ocean temps sure went up fast. Cow nose rays were swimming off Ortley Beach yesterday afternoon reported by one of our shop guys. Last night in Island Beach State Park two nice brown sharks were taken in the 3 to 4 foot range, the same two anglers also had a nice 31" bass all the fish were taken on cut bunker. King fish, croakers and fluke remain the mainstay in the surf. Crabbing in the bay was on fire yesterday with dock crabbers walking away with 2 doz. plus keepers, while the boats were doing that and more! John Yac

Another great beach day! Fishing in the suds remains the same, with king fish croakers and fluke the main targets. Keeper bass and blue fish are hit or miss right now. Crabbing in the bay from our dock or boats is more than steady with nice catches of crab coming from both. As always we have a full line of fresh and frozen baits. So come on down, beat the heat and enjoy some fishing and crabbing. John Yac

And the heat goes on! Looking for a place to beat the heat? The waters edge is the place to be, and while your there why not fish! There are king fish and croakers along with some nice fluke roaming our beaches and lets not forget the occasional keeper bass thrown in the mix. The method is as follows, king fish and croakers use a small king fish spot rig tipped with fishbites or live worms. For the fluke, a buck tail jig tipped with a gulp swimming minnow at the point and a teaser of your choice just above. You can substitute the gulp with a squid strip or live killie The occasional bass will be taken on clams or cut bunker fished on a high-lo or fish-finder rig. The bay is producing nice catches of crab both from the dock and boats. Small snappers, spot and blow fish are keeping the bay fisherman busy. Remember we have live killies, sand worms and clams along with fresh bunker and a large selection of frozen baits....John Yac
