Small blues on cut baits is the cry coming from the surf for the past few days. Not a ton of pressure from surfcasters, but the few who did venture out were kept busy with small to mid size blues. the bulk of the fish caught were on cut bunker and mullet. A few small bass have been taken out back and around our local bridges. These fish are taking small swimming plugs readily when present. Fishing Report

If your not fishing first and last light in the surf right now your missing out on 90% of the action! The mullet run seems to be slowing, with the size of the blues being taken right now shrinking daily. There is still small to the occasional keeper size bass both out front and back in the bay. This bite seems to be only in the magic times of the day, first and last light and into dark. We need some cooler weather and the larger bait schools that are off shore right now to move in closer to the beach. Remember it's still early in our area for the fall bass and bluefish run!... Fishing Report

More of the same yesterday out front, small blues on cut mullet. The surprise yesterday came from our dock out back. You heard of the old adage, "wind in your face, fish at your feet", well it came true yesterday when a couple of anglers were fishing cut baits into a good stiff southerly wind out back. There efforts were rewarded by a 18", 20" and a 28" bass about late morning, not too shabby! Crabbers were hard pressed to get 4 to 5 keeper crabs for there efforts... John Yac
