Small blues out front yesterday for those few guy giving it a shot. Small pieces of bunker or mullet seem to be doing the trick yesterday fished on a hi-lo or float type of rig. Using small metals and small poppers will cover the artificial side... John Yac

Five days left in the New Jersey fluke season, Saturday September 22 is the last day to put some of those tasty fillets on your table. Bluefish in the 2 lb. to 4 lb. range remains the number one target right now in the surf. The heavy wave action that we have been experiencing in the surf the past few days is due to the left over effects of Florence. These surf conditions have been keeping many surf anglers at home. Once the surf returns to normal the fishing should pick up... John Yac

With the great weather forecasted for today and a light NE wind blowing, the surf should be in decent shape. The mullet run is now underway, with the big blues and cow bass not far behind. Small blues and bass are showing up in the surf and around the inlet areas. Small swimmers and metals with mullet profiles will catch fish. Not a plug caster? Try cut mullet on a Hi-Lo rig while the fish are on the small side, then move to a mullet rig when the blues get larger. Cut bunker fished on a fish-finder rig when the big girls start to show is a favorite method among fall surf anglers. We are still picking some decent keeper crabs, just not a lot of them, from our dock and rental boats... John Yac

Lets take a few minutes to remember that horrific day 17 years ago that took the lives of 3,000 plus people at the World Trade Center, plus many more at the Pentagon along with the heroic passengers and flight crew of US Airlines Flight 93 which crashed into a field in Somerset County, Pa. This horrific act of terrorism inflicted on our country by a Islamic extremist group called Al-Qaeda will never be forgotten!
As far as the fishing scene goes, the approaching hurricane to our south has been beating up our local surf making fishing impossible to all but the hard core surf guys who thrive on fishing approaching storms. So until these storms pass there will be not much to report from the surf... John Yac

Blue fishing heats up in IBSP both on artificials and cut baits. The last few days saw nice mid size blues taking cut baits and artificial lures in good numbers in the park. There is plenty of bait out front as well as around the inlet areas. With the mullet run scheduled to start any time now putting hungry blues and bass on the feed. We weighed in a nice 6.45 lb. fluke taken by Scott Krebes aboard his boat yesterday. Check our FB page for a look at this weigh-in... John Yac
