Fishing Report

We still seem to be in a holding pattern as far as the surf bite is concerned. Mid day yesterday one of our customers reported bait blowing up off of 14th street Seaside Park. The school was out of casting range off course so no fish to report. Still this is what we want to see more and more of. A couple of large blues we taken off the end or our dock on cut bunker in the morning. Small bass were taking pieces of clam and sand worms also... John Yac

The 30 lb. bass taken Saturday in IBSP on a bunker chunk sure raised a few eye brows! But so far it seems to be a one fish wonder. Trying to figure out the fall fish migrations is surly no easy matter. Wind direction, water temperatures and bait patterns all play important rolls. Add to that a well maintained log book of past years data and all you can make is a educated guess at best. So here goes! I'm saying (guessing) we should have fish both from the boats and surf on or about Oct. 28th., let's see how close I come. As for now, slow is the word, both surf and bay... John Yac

Warm weather or good fishing?? That is the question! My vote is for the latter! The unseasonably warm temperatures we have been experiencing lately may be stretching the summer season for some but not the surf angler. Water temps need to drop, bait fish need to school up and migrate which will put migrating bass and blues on the feed and hopefully within casting range. Small local bass chasing small swimmers by dark and taking clams by day. Mix in cocktail blues on small metals and cut baits. Just to keep you on your toes the occasional slammer blue will put quite a bend in your rod. This sums up the surf scene right now... John Yac

With the small numbers of fisherman hitting the surf lately leads me to believe only one thing. The majority of fisherman are sitting at home scanning the local reports and waiting for the phone to ring and until they see some pictures of nice size bass hanging from local scales will they spring into action. With this behavior becoming more and more the norm we're missing out on what's really happening. What we do have to report is, small bass taking small swimming plugs at first and last light and also on the night tides. Cocktail blues are still present chasing tiny baits and tog fishing remains good in the canal and off the jetty. Larger blues and small bass in the bay remains the norm. >>> We have FRESH CLAMS, LIVE EELS, and plenty of GREEN CRABS in stock with SAND WORMS do to arrive tomorrow.<<<.... John Yac

The fishing report will be a mirror image of yesterday's. With even warmer temps forecasted for today. Watch out for the sun bathers sitting in the beach buggy tracks in IBSP today in full violation of the "surf fishing only" beach rules. But that's another story for another day. Crabbing is still a pick for those willing to give it a try. Remember for all your bait and fishing needs stop by and say hello. Along with that you can pick up a delicious breakfast sandwich and fresh hot coffee to go and your all set. Enjoy!... John Yac
