No Joaquin yet! Still time to slip into your rain gear and get a few casts in. With the storm somewhat stalled off the Bahamas and forecasted not to be in our area till the end of the week. The surf fishing although challenging but not impossible is still there for those willing to give it a shot. Small blues and the occasional small bass are the fish available right now. Cut mullet, metals and swimmers will give you the best chance of hooking up... John Yac

You have a small window to get some surf fishing in before things get a bit hairy. There is plenty of mullet out there and you know where there is bait there is fish. Blowfish have increased in size some and keeper crabs are still being taken... John Yac

There is no relief in sight from these strong easterly winds so be creative when heading out to the beach. The one thing to remember, SAFTY FIRST! no fish is worth risking your life for! Crabbing seems to be hanging on as two of our dock regulars Mat & Carol went home yesterday with 30 nice keepers... John Yac

Break out the big sticks the next few days will surely be a challenge! NE to E winds will stir things up and make fishing miserable for the angler but not necessarily the fish. It will also cut down on the fair weather fisherman leaving more open space for you the hard core angler. Bottle plugs, darters, heavy metals and 3 oz. plus buck tails will shine in these conditions. As far as bait fishing goes, 6 oz. to 8 oz. and at times even higher will be needed to keep the bait in front of you. Fluke season will end Sept. 26th, so you still have a shot at a nice size flatty. Tomorrow at 4:21 AM marks the first day of fall, a cherished time for the surf angler, are you ready? ... John Yac
