The beach bite of bass, blues and fluke continued yesterday out front. Bait remains the way to go on all three species. Cut bunker, clams, squid strips tipped with spearing or killies (if you can find them) are the baits of choice. Artificial choices remain from SP minnow style swimmers, poppers, and buck tails tipped with gulp, pork rinds, or otter tails all seem to be producing fish in the right places at the right times... Slow yesterday mostly due to the weather and lack of bait out front. Today's forecast is much more conducive to surf fishing. Reports of small blues chasing bait with birds diving in the Lavallette Ortley beach area are coming into the shop. The bay bite is about the same and there is still a lack of crabs out back... The pick of bass, blues and fluke in the surf continues. Mixed sizes of blues with small to keeper size fluke are still being taken from Barnegat Inlet to the south, and north to the Mathis/Tunney Bridge. FINALLY!, some keeper CRABS were taken yesterday off our dock, not a ton but definitely worth the time and effort trying... John Yac

There are still some nice size keeper bass finding their way to the local scales. These fish are being taken mostly on cut bunker and clams out front on our ocean beaches. The bay is still producing some slammer blues if you know where to seek them out. Case in point, one of our regular boat renters from Philly yesterday rented one of our skiffs for 4 hours and returned with several nice slammer blues! These fish were taken on cut mullet fished right on the bottom. Although he was tight lipped about his honey hole, it was still within our boat rental range! Still waiting on crabs to show out back!... John Yac

More of the same out front! Slow pick of bass, blues and fluke being caught on bait and lures alike. That is if you are lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time! The bay is still producing small to medium size blues, with small to keeper size fluke in all the usual spots, and a few small bass are being taken around the bridges on rubber jigs mostly... John Yac
