Like I have been saying, there are still a few keeper bass around for those of us who don't want to put the rods away just yet. SP minnows by far will out fish any swimming plugs in it's class, especially in our area for some unexplained reason. Second choice would be a swim shad followed by a wider profile metal. Bait is bait, cut bunker and clams will always be the one two punch in that department. Live eels are walking the line between artificial lures and natural baits, fished both live and rigged with both ways being deadly on big bass in the right locations and at the right times... It's not over till it's over! There are still a few nice keeper bass being taken here and their from the surf, and they are taken both cut baits and plugs. The boat guys, especially the ones on the troll, are still scoring quality fish. They have been trolling up fish just to the south of us the last couple of days. We are expecting fresh bunker a little later on!... John Yac

So how's the fall striper run going for you? When you ask that question you get two very different answers. First, the surf guys will say "not so good", I never seem to be in the right place at the right time when a few quality fish were within casting range. Second, the boat guys, especially the hard core trolling ones will say "one of my best", I put myself in some likely spots, set out my spoons and mojo's out, and before I know it, "fish on". This sums up fall stripe bass fishing in our area. Case in point, I was talking to two good anglers just this morning, one surf guy and one boat guy. The surf guy told me "just more of the same", the boat guy, Walt D. was ecstatic!, "15 quality bass so far on the troll" in a very short period! What a crazy season... John Yac

The surf guys had some action yesterday when a nice school of bait moved in within casting range and brought a few quality fish in tow! This action was in the Ortley Lavallette beach areas. The bigger fish were taken on large poppers but SP minnows, metals, and swim shads all were hooking up. Herring also moved in yesterday in the IBSP area. these larger baits may also draw in some larger bass... John Yac
